Driving Across Country

Think back on your most memorable road trip.

Two years ago, my daughter decided she wanted to move back to the West Coast. She wanted to have an opportunity to live near her grandparents who live in Oregon.

She wanted to have her car, so the only way to do that was to drive it across the country. And she wanted to be out in time for her Grandpa’s 90th birthday. So she asked different people if they were available to make the trip with her. Of course she wanted me to start the trip because this would be the last road trip for us for a while.

The plan for me was to drive with her from Boston to Chicago. We would only drive during the day staying at hotels in different states along the way.

The most memorable thing about the trip was the first day. We packed our own lunches and it turned out her leftover sandwich had gone bad. I said well I have some bread and cheese and some dates. Here, try this. She was like Mom, this is fantastic! I can’t believe how good this is.

It completely warmed my heart, because I am constantly gazed upon as an oddity because of my diet restrictions.

It’s the simple things in life.

Look, just keep it simple.
