Aunt Betty, she was my Dad’s sister. She was a force to be reckoned with. A southern woman who unfortunately never married. She probably would have ran right over the guy. She was a doctor of history. But loved a good book, a good conversation, and good food. When she taught at Tulane, my daughter and I would go and visit her. She would take us to her favorite hole in the wall place that served the best catfish and hush puppies, and the French quarter for the coffee and the beignets. She and my Dad grew up in DC. So I think one of my favorite visits with my daughter was when she took us to Georgetown in search of a formal dress. My daughter was going to be in this performance with other young girls at a Mother and Daughter Tea. She needed a princess type dress. We found this beautiful pink dress with lace and the trimmings. It was perfect; and just a great outing for all of us. She continues to push me ‘in spirit’ to reach for the moon knowing you’ll end up among the stars. I hope I can be that Aunt for my niece!
