What’s a job you would like to do for just one day?

There is so much misinformation when it comes to the medical field. Just for one day, I would love to say, most of what I am telling you is…LIES. The pharmaceutical industry wants me to get you taking this drug. I make money, he/she makes money.

I have a friend who went to the doctor and she was urging her to take a certain drug. Her assistant was in the room. She asked if the assistant would leave the room. Once the assistant had left and the door was closed, she asked the doctor, would you take this medicine and the doctor said, unequivocally, No.

I myself, broke my ankle and the doctor said we need to schedule surgery to fix it. I was just coming into a new job. Thought my insurance started that month..it was the following month. I couldn’t afford that emergency room, that specialist visit, much less surgery. So I told him to put a cast on it. He said he needed to confer with the ankle and foot doctor. I looked at him and asked, who are you? I’m the back and hip specialist, who wanted to do my surgery. I shook my head, and said, even more so you need to put a cast on it. When my ankle was all healed, he said you did the right thing!

We need to be our own advocates, when it comes to the medical field.

    If i was a doctor i would cry all day feeling bad for sick people

    I couldn’t agree more! We absolutely have to be our own advocate; and if we’re not able to do that, we need someone we trust to be one for us. It’s especially important as we get older to not be afraid to ask questions and exercise some autonomy with your healthcare. Sometimes it feels like society doesn’t place as much value on our older members. Having worked in hospitals and a variety of private physician practices, you learn a lot more about the thinking progress, how the drug reps are when they come in with their samples for physicians to give patients, and just all of it. Having said that, I also recognize how incredibly busy and often many physicians can be. They’re human like everybody else, and can be prone to fatigue, or have an off day, among other things. This is why it is so important to ask questions, giving them pause to stop and really think about things when they’re making decisions on your care.
